Did you know that saffron, the precious and very expensive spice that gives food an intense yellow colour, comes from a beautiful purple flower? Discover all the secrets of this fascinating plant and immerse yourself in the beautiful Tuscan countryside with abicycle excursion in the Mugello valley.
Pedal in peace, admire the beautiful landscapes and stop to visit a family-run farm. You will see saffron plantations and taste many typical local products flavoured with this spice.
A few kilometres from Florence a little corner of paradise awaits you, a wonderful gift for those you love or for yourself, to be experienced in total tranquillity and in full harmony with nature and the surrounding environment.
What we will do
We will meet in Vicchio, in the province of Florence, and there we will meet the guide who will accompany us during the excursion. First, we will take a walk through the small village of medieval origin, famous for its small lake and because it was the birthplace of two artists of the calibre of Giotto and Beato Angelico.
After that, we will get on our bikes and ride into Mugello, far from the city traffic and immersed in the land that gave the Medici family its origins. Along the way we will encounter a villa from the Medici era, a Romanesque parish church (an ancient religious building that provided refreshment for pilgrims on their way) and pass by the hill where Giotto's birthplace is located, always immersed in nature and surrounded by the bucolic landscape of the Tuscan countryside.
Halfway along we will stop at a family-run farm. We will see the vineyards, the animals, the beehives and we will linger in particular over the saffron plantations. The owners will explain their cultivation methods and give us valuable tips on how to use the spice in our recipes. Finally, we will have the opportunity to taste typical local products flavoured with saffron (honey, cheese, beer, herbal teas and biscuits).
The excursion lasts between 3 and 4 hours. The route has a total length of 15 km and does not have any particular height differences or dangerous sections.

This activity is easy and suitable for everyone who is in good health and able to ride a bike, with no age limit.

Attention! Please arrive at the meeting point at least 15 minutes before the departure time.
The activity takes place all year round from Tuesday to Sunday and is confirmed when there are at least 2 participants.

What happens in case of bad weather?
If you have made a fixed date reservation and the weather conditions are not suitable for the safe conduct of the activity (in the expert opinion of the guide), you will be refunded the full amount paid. The guide may suggest an alternative date or time for you to conduct the activity. You can freely choose whether or not to accept these proposals. If you can’t retrieve it, we will process a full refund! If you have set the date for your Gift Voucher and bad weather did not allow the activity to take place, the Voucher remains regularly valid until the expiration date indicated on it.
If I cancel the reservation, can I get a full refund?
For this activity, the cancellation policy is moderate. You get a full refund if you cancel within 8 days from the activity start date. Within 7 and 5 days from the activity start date you will get a 50% refund. You can find the full policies in the Cancellation Policy section.
