Full description

A few kilometres from Rome is a place so special that it was chosen as the Pope's summer residence. It is Castel Gandolfo and its lake, one of the most beautiful in central and southern Italy. Discover it with a private e-bike tour, accompanied by a local guide.

Starting from the Circus Maximus and pedalling peacefully along theAppia Antica, you will immerse yourself in a slice of Roman history, far from the crowds of tourists, in contact with nature and tradition.

Amidst ruins, catacombs and Mediterranean vegetation, you will reach the lakeside resort where a swim in the cool waters of the lake, a wine tasting and a lunch of local culinary specialities await you.

Pedal-assisted bikes with various levels of adjustment make this 35 km tour suitable even for those who are not particularly fit.

What we will do

The tour will start at 9.30 am near the Circus Maximus in Rome. There we will meet the local guide who will hand over the e-bikes and help us adjust them. After a short briefing on the route, we will start cycling towards theAppia Antica. This Roman road is an attraction in itself, as it is agrandiose work for the time in which it was built (6th - 3rd century BC). It connected ancient Rome to the port outlet of Brindisi and some sections still appear intact today, after so many centuries.

Among the various points of interest we will encounter along the way are the Catacombs of St Callistus and St Sebastian, the Baths of Caracalla, the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella, and the Circus of Messentius. It will be a real plunge into history, made even more interesting by the guide's precise explanations.

Thenaturalistic aspect will also be surprising. We will pass through the Appia Antica Regional Park and the Caffarella Regional Park, noting the great variety of flora that will accompany us as far as Lake Castel Gandolfo (also known as Lake Albano). We will stop on its shores to cool off and take a swim, weather permitting. Afterwards, we will go to an ancient osteria to taste locally produced wine and an excellent lunch based on typical products (the menu included in the participation fee includes appetisers, first course and water).

At the end of lunch, we will head to the station to return to Rome by train. From Termini station, we will cycle the last stretch back to our starting point, passing by the Colosseum. We will say goodbye around 18:00, after having spent a beautiful day discovering the area.

Who it is aimed at
