Full description

The Amalfi Coast, world-famous for its seaside villages nestled between the rocks overlooking the sea, holds many other lesser-known but equally fascinating surprises. One of these is the Valle delle Ferriere, inland from Amalfi.

A trekking route led by a local guide will take you to discover this Natural Reserve, characterised by incredible vegetation that includes ancient and rare species and by waterfalls and streams that make the environment very cool even in the height of summer.

Set off for a half-day in close contact with nature and let yourself be healed by the regenerating power of the vegetation and the purity of the natural elements of this incredible Mediterranean treasure.

What we will do

We will meet around 8:00 a.m. in Cava de' Tirreni (SA) and together with the guide we will transfer to Amalfi, where the trekking tour will begin. We will take one of the paths leading inland from Amalfi, to the Valle delle Ferriere and the Valle dei Mulini. We will walk on paths immersed in lemon groves and gradually move away from the sea to lose ourselves in the dense woods framed by the Monti Lattari.

On the way we will encounter the ruins of ancient iron and paper mills, which over the centuries contributed to the splendour and wealth of the Maritime Republic of Amalfi. We will stop in Minuta, the district that best preserves the medieval imprint of these lands, and visit the remains of the ancient Basilica of Sant'Eustachio.

We will then reach the Valle delle Ferriere Oriented Nature Reserve, where an authorised guide will accompany us for a30-minute exploration. We will admire the Rio Canneto waterfall, more than 25 metres high, the petrified mosses and a series of rare plants, such as the giant prehistoric fern Woodwardia Radicans, one of the few specimens in Italy, and the carnivorous plant Pinguicola hirtiflora.

At the end of the nature trail, those who wish can visit the Paper Museum, where it is possible to reproduce a piece of paper using ancient medieval methods. The excursion comes to an end at lunchtime, and we can decide whether to stop and eat something all together in a local trattoria (lunch not included in the price) or to return directly to Cava de' Tirreni.
