Truffle Hunting in Alto Monferrato

In the company of expert guides, the so-called 'trifolao', and truffle dogs, you will embark on an interesting excursion in the Monferrato woods, during which you will be taught the basics of becoming an authentic truffle hunter. will be taught the basics to become an authentic truffle hunter! of truffles!

You will learn, for example, about the type of terrain in which they grow, which are the best dogs to take with you and also the characteristics of this mushroom that grows underground. It will be a unique experience that will bring you into direct contact with nature, among typical forest scents and ancient traditions.

What we will do

The appointment is at the time selected during the booking process near Alessandria. Upon arrival, we will meet the guide and the truffle dog and drive to the truffle hunting area (which may vary depending on the season).

Before setting off into the forest, we will be given a brief introduction to the truffle, in which we will learn about the history of the truffle, dog training and the various types of this prized hypogean fungus.

After this, the actual search will begin. This is a natural search, i.e. a search that is 'true' in every respect: the truffles will not have been hidden beforehand but will be found thanks to the trained dogs.

During the search, the guide will accompany us with other curiosities about the world of truffles and, if we are lucky, we will be able to admire them freshly extracted from the earth. The search will last about 2 hours, at the at the end of which we will return to the point of departure.

Who it is aimed at

The excursion is suitable for everyone, with no age limit. No specific skills are required; all that is needed is some walking ability.

Children and young people up to the age of 14 can participate in the activity free of charge.

Other information

The activity is available from September to December, the white truffle period, and from June to August, the black truffle period.

It is possible to add a truffle lunch or dinner in an affiliated restaurant in the area to the excursion at an extra cost of €80 per person. If interested, please contact the guide directly after booking confirmation.

The search will take place in a secret natural truffle ground, also known as a 'pasture'. To preserve the delicate truffle environment, the meeting point will be communicated a few days before the activity.

This is not an educational tour in which truffles are hidden beforehand, but an actual truffle search, an experience rooted in local tradition that we will have the honour of sharing with the truffle hunter. For this reason, there is the possibility of finding not white or black truffles, but some less prized types of truffles.

Important: you cannot keep the truffles you find for yourself.
