Full description
Discover the charms of western Sicily with a 4x4 buggy tour in the Segesta countryside and be surprised by the history and nature that blend harmoniously in this area.
You will visit the Polle di Crimiso, natural pools of volcanic origin, and enjoy a thermal bath inhot water up to 47 degrees. Then you will reach a panoramic viewpoint overlooking the magnificent Temple of Segesta, one of the best preserved examples of Hellenic architecture.
As with any excursion in Sicily, there is also room for gastronomic specialities. During the tour, you'll stop to enjoy some fresh seasonal fruit, followed by a taste of pane cunzato and a typical dessert to end on a high note!
What we will do
We will meet at the car park of theSegesta Archaeological Area, where after an introductory briefing we will board the 4x4 buggy, a hybrid between quad and off-road vehicle, perfect for moving through the countryside, cliffs and dirt tracks.
We will set out for the Segestan countryside, stopping at vineyards and orchards to taste the fresh fruit produced here: grapes, mulberries, pomegranates, melons, and prickly pears, depending on the season. The guides will entertain us with tales, curiosities and descriptions of the area, around which various mythological legends revolve.
Like that of the god Krimisòs, who heated the waters of the river Caldo to allow the nymph Egesta to rest along its banks. This legend is said to have given rise to the name of the Polle di Crimiso, Segesta's thermal baths, natural pools of volcanic origin, where the water reaches 47 degrees and one can bathe freely and free of charge.
The natural setting of the Polle di Crimiso is wonderful: the thermal pools emerge from the earth among rocks, oleanders, reeds, prickly pears and castor plants. We will really feel as if we are immersed in a mythological setting from Ancient Greece.
After the relaxing bath, we will continue the excursion around Calatafimi-Segesta, stop to enjoy the typical pane cunzato and a traditional Sicilian pastry , and finally reach the unmissable viewpoint of the Temple of Segesta, which stands imposing and isolated in the green surrounding countryside.
In total, the activity will last about 4 hours and will end with a return to the starting point.
Who it is aimed at
This activity is of an easy level and is open to everyone. A B licence is required for drivers, while there is no age limit for passengers. Child seats are available for children up to 3 years of age (service included).
Other information
This activity can be carried out from May to November, weather permitting, and is confirmed with a minimum of 2 buggies. If you wish to carry out the activity with only one buggy, there is a supplement of 50€ (payable locally).
Important: the €280 fee includes the guided tour, the hire of a two-seater 4x4 buggy for 1 driver and 1 passenger, and a tasting session for two people.
The centre has 10 two-seater bug gies for a total of 20 participants, and 1 four-seater buggy for families at a price of 410€.
During the tour, a walking pace will be maintained and there will be no running or manoeuvring not authorised by the guides.
