Full description

What if there were a way to combine adrenaline, nature and history, all in two hours of pure excitement? Brace yourself, because our quad bike tour in the Donica Valley is exactly what you’re looking for!

Set off from Abbateggio and enjoy riding a zippy quad bike through the Donica Valley to Roccamorice and Piano delle Castagne.

On your quad bike, you’ll admire rolling hills, valleys and majestic mountains, but that’s not all: you’ll take a real trip back in time as you visit charming rural villages, mines and prisoner-of-war camps dating back to the Second World War. So, are you up for it?

What we will do

We’ll meet 15 minutes before the scheduled time at the meeting point in Abbateggio (PE). On arrival, we’ll meet the guide and have a short briefing, during which we’ll be shown how the quad bike works. After that, we’ll go for a test ride to get to grips with the vehicle.

We’ll set off towards Roccamorice, also known as the ‘village of hermitages’ due to its famous places of worship carved into the rock. We’ll ride along the picturesque trails of the Donica Valley and , as we gradually climb, we’ll admire the rolling hills, the valleys stretching down to the sea and the majestic mountains of Maiella, Morrone and Gran Sasso.

We’ll take a journey through history, passing dry-stone structures, low walls and huts known as ‘Pajare’ or ‘Tholoj’. We’ll then take a leap forward to the Second World War by visiting the Acquafredda POW camp and the bitumen mines. Here we’ll make two brief stops to learn more about their history.

We’ll then climb back onto the quad bikes for the return journey, but not before making one final stop in the village of Roccamorice for a traditional aperitif featuring local produce such as cured meats and cheeses.

We’ll cover a total of around 15–20 km , most of which will be on dirt tracks. The quad bike tour will last 2 hours, whilst the whole experience will last around 2½ hours in total, including stops and briefings.

Who it is aimed at

The tour is suitable for everyone. Drivers must be at least 18 years old and have a B licence.

The minimum age for passengers is 6 years.

Other information

The excursion runs all year round.

The price is per quad bike. Each quad bike can carry one driver and one passenger (with the option to take turns at the wheel) . The centre has 4 quad bikes, for a maximum of 8 participants.

The excursion takes place on roads where motorised vehicles are permitted, in accordance with the Park’s rules on environmental protection and conservation.
