Full description
Treat yourself to an adventure together with friendly donkeys! They will be your trusty companions on this Abruzzo nature walk.
Alongside your donkey and a guide, you will ride along a hilly road until you reach a viewpoint, from where you can observe the wonderful panorama of the Tirino Valley, Calascio and Ofena.
Once at the top, you will open the picnic basket carried by the donkey, where you will find many delicacies for a tasty aperitif. A 2½-hour experience of sweetness and taste!
What we will do
The meeting point is Carapelle Calvisio (AQ), where you can pick up your picnic basket at the farm's bistro. You will then have to drive another short distance to reach the actual farm.
Here you will be welcomed by a guide, who will tell you about the farm and its philosophy , and you will get to know the friendly donkeys that will be at your side during the walk.
Once the introductions are over, you can set off with your guide along the hill road that climbs behind the farm. You will thus experience donkey trekking: a donkey will carry your picnic basket up to the top, allowing you to enjoy the route (about 2 km, on a dirt road with a slight elevation gain).
After about 30 minutes of walking you will reach a viewpoint at the top of the hill, from where you can admire a fantastic landscape with the entire green Tirino Valley at your feet and the villages of Calascio, Ofena, Capestrano and Castelvecchio in the distance.
A gazebo will be the ideal setting to start your picnic: in the basket you will find plates, glasses and cutlery, and of course many delicacies from the farm, such as cold meats, cheeses, pickles, preserves, seasonal fruit and vegetables, accompanied by water and fruit juices.
After emptying the basket of its delicacies, you will set off back to the farm. The activity will last approximately 2½ hours.
Who it is aimed at
The walk is easy and suitable for everyone from 5 years of age. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
It is sufficient to have good mobility and be able to tackle the route on foot, as it is not suitable for buggies or prams.
Other information
The activity is available from April to October and is aimed at private groups of up to 20 participants.
In case of food intolerances or allergies, please contact the organisers to agree on possible changes to the picnic basket. Contact details can be found in your booking confirmation email.
At the bistro it is possible to buy other drinks to add to the picnic, such as wine and craft beer, to be paid for on site.
No other animals are allowed during the walk.
The meeting point cannot be reached by public transport; free parking is available on site.
