Did you know that Italy has its original cowboys?
They are called butteri and they are the horsemen who have been herding cattle for centuries, an undisputed symbol of rural traditions between Lazio and Tuscany.
Come and discover this ancient craft in the Castelli Romani: together with an expert guide, you will enjoy a 3-hour experience amidst wild nature, free-roaming horses and Maremma cows. .. with a final aperitif!
What we will do
The appointment is at the indicated time at the meeting point in Velletri (RM) . Awaiting us will be the guide who will accompany us on this adventure to discover the tradition of the cowherds.
We will begin our activity by entering a reproduction of a typical hut of transhumant shepherds. Here we will listen to stories about the history of the area, the Laziale Volcano, and learn the basics of approaching horses with total respect for their well-being.
We will then get to the heart of the experience by approaching the association's historical herd. We will experience an intense moment of observation and contact with the horses, playing with them in complete safety and also interacting with the majestic grazing Maremma cows.
Depending on our curiosity, we will be able to look after the horses, participate in moving the herd or enjoy a walk through the woods and the 20 hectares of wilderness of the estate.
We will end the experience with a convivial moment: in front of the fire we will enjoy an aperitif with local products and a good glass of local wine.
Between the experience of about 2 hours and the aperitif, the activity will last a total of about 3 hours.

The experience is suitable from the age of 16. Minors must be accompanied by a participating adult.

If you have made a fixed date reservation and the weather conditions are not suitable for carrying out the activity safely (according to the expert opinion of the guide), you will be refunded the full amount paid. The guide may suggest an alternative date or time for the activity. You are free to choose whether or not to accept these suggestions. If you are unable to reschedule, we will proceed with a full refund!
