Full description

Forget the usual walk: here, you walk… inside a mountain!

Explore Subiaco’s Secret Cave through underground chambers carved out by water, narrow passages and abseils of up to 6 metres!

With a helmet on your head, a torch lit and an explorer’s spirit, you can delve underground for three and a half hours of pure adventure!

What we will do

We will meet at the meeting point in Subiaco (RM) for an initial briefing, where we will be told the programme for the experience and given all the necessary instructions to tackle the route safely.

We will then travel in our own vehicles to the cave entrance, which is about a 15-minute drive away, where we will be issued with the technical equipment required for the activity: a helmet, head torch, harness and gloves.

After a short walk through the woods and across the dry riverbed, we’ll reach the entrance to the Grotta Segreta. Before entering, we’ll have a briefing on our surroundings, the geological features of the cave and how to navigate rocky and damp environments, followed by an introduction to the techniques for using lanyards on the sections equipped with ropes.

Once inside, the real exploration begins: we’ll cross a large natural tunnel carved out by water over millennia and tackle the first zip line, 15 metres long and 6 metres high, which will take us into the heart of the cave. We’ll continue through winding passages, narrow rock passages and sections equipped with ropes, until we reach striking chambers such as the chamber with the cave paintings and the famous ‘Bat Chamber’ – a particularly fascinating space where you can watch these animals as they move between the different areas of the cave.

We’ll continue along a handrail that crosses a pool of water, and from this point we’ll be able to admire the great rock vault that marks the cave’s exit, before reaching the second cableway, which is 10 metres long and 8 metres high.

Here, the return path through the woods awaits us, with some sections equipped with ropes, before we head back to the cars.

The activity lasts a total of three and a half hours.

Who it is aimed at

The activity is easy and suitable for everyone aged 10 and over. Children aged between 10 and 13 must be accompanied by an adult. From the age of 14 , a signed consent form from a parent is sufficient.
