Full description
Set off on a day e-bike tour on the Via del Ferro in the Varrone Valley. Retrace the footsteps of the miners who, until the second half of the 19th century, transported minerals to the valley.
From Premana, in the province of Lecco, you will cycle along a 17 km route until you reach the typical Premanese alpine pastures called Forni. Afterwards, you can stop at a refuge to enjoy a lunch of traditional dishes.
The guide, certified by the National MTB Academy, will allow you to experience all this in complete safety and will enthuse you by telling you about the fascinating history of Val Varrone.
What we will do
The appointment is at 9.30 a.m. near Premana, in the province of Lecco. Here we will meet the guide who will accompany us throughout the day. After handing over the e-bikes, we will have a 10-minute briefing during which we will be explained how to use the electric bikes. After that, we will be ready to set off.
We will take the old dirt road along the Varrone river. In the initial part, the road proves easy. After about 40 minutes of cycling, we arrive at the alpine pastures of Forni di Casarsa and Vegessa, where we can take a short break.
After about 20 minutes we reach the Dente waterfall. Here the river cascades down from the mountain above, making a drop of some 20 metres. The road will then increase in gradient for another 30 minutes toAlpe Varrone, at an altitude of 800 metres.
At around 1 p.m. we will stop at Rifugio Casera Vecchia. Those who wish can enjoy a lunch of typical dishes here (not included in the fee) or their own packed lunch. We will then resume pedalling back towards Premana. We will be able to decide whether to retrace the same route as the outward journey or vary towardsAlpe Artino, whose route features a fun single track.
During the tour, the guide will tell us many interesting facts about Val Varrone and its fascinating history. He will also take some action-cam footage, which will then be shared with us. The route is 17 km in all and has an altitude difference of 1100 m.
The total duration of the activity is 7 hours.
Who it is aimed at
This activity is of medium difficulty. Good physical condition and a minimum of experience in cycling is required.
The minimum age for participation is 14.
Other information
The activity takes place on weekends from May to September, weather permitting, and is confirmed with a minimum of three participants.
Lunch is not included in the participation fee. If you wish to have lunch at the Rifugio Casera Vecchia at the agreed price of €15, contact the guide as soon as possible to reserve a table.

What happens in case of bad weather?
If you have made a fixed date reservation and the weather conditions are not suitable for the safe conduct of the activity (in the expert opinion of the guide), you will be refunded the full amount paid. The guide may suggest an alternative date or time for you to conduct the activity. You can freely choose whether or not to accept these proposals. If you can’t retrieve it, we will process a full refund! If you have set the date for your Gift Voucher and bad weather did not allow the activity to take place, the Voucher remains regularly valid until the expiration date indicated on it.
If I cancel the reservation, can I get a full refund?
For this activity, the cancellation policy is moderate. You get a full refund if you cancel within 8 days from the activity start date. Within 7 and 5 days from the activity start date you will get a 50% refund. You can find the full policies in the Cancellation Policy section.
