E-bike tour on the Appia Antica with wine tasting

Get on an e-bike to ride along a section of the Via Appia Antica with its typical Roman cobblestones.

Your certified guide will accompany you along a 20 km route and take you back in time. Along the way, you will discover ancient architectural testimonies such as the Fortino di Sant'Andrea, made famous by the brigand Fra Diavolo.

Once you reach the Monti Cecubi area, you will stop for a tasting at a farm. You will taste delicious chopping boards with a selection of typical local products and drink the same wine that Roman emperors and soldiers indulged in during the days of the empire, the Caecubo wine. What we will do

We will meet in Itri (LT). We will leave the car at the free car park, after which we will be given helmets and e-bikes by the guide, who will accompany us for the duration of the excursion.

We will set off along the stretch of the Via Francigena in the Itri area until we reach the Via Appia Antica. Pedalling on our e-bikes we will go back in time to the glorious era of the Roman Empire. Some of the stretches of the Appia Antica, in fact, still retain the Roman paved surface.

We will also be able to enjoy a landscape dotted with various historical testimonies, such as the Fortino di Sant'Andrea, erected on the remains of a pagan temple dedicated to the cult of Apollo. The fort was the scene of a series of battles during the Bourbon domination and is best known for the vicissitudes of Italy's most famous brigand, Fra Diavolo.

We will then continue on e-bikes until we reach the Caecubi Mountains, where we will stop at the farm of the same name for our tasting of Caecubo wine, the elixir of the ancient Romans.

We will thus have the opportunity to taste two wines produced by the farm accompanied by a platter of typical local products. After our food and wine stop, we will get back on our e-bikes to return to the starting point. The route is 20 km long and we will be together for about 4 hours, one of which will be dedicated to our tasting.

Who it is aimed at

The excursion is suitable for everyone, as the route is simple and presents no particular difficulties.

Children who are at least 140 cm tall, i.e. able to use a small adult e-bike, can also participate.

On request, it is possible to add

• a special child trolley with a maximum weight of 25 kg;
• a special one-wheel trolley for transporting a dog weighing up to 20 kg.

Other information

The activity takes place all year round on the days when the farm is open, i.e. Thursday, Friday and Saturday, and is reserved for private groups of up to 8 participants.

The fee includes the membership card (5€), as the activity is reserved for members only.
