Falconer for a day in the province of Potenza

If you want to participate in afalconry experience, you must do so here. Melfi is the setting for the international gathering of falconers!

In the company of a falconer, get to know his fascinating birds of prey: over the course of 1 hour, watch a flight demonstration and try to call a specimen to the punch among buzzards, owls and other species.

All in the setting of the Vulture Regional Natural Park, in the heart of Basilicata.

What we will do

The appointment is at the selected time at the meeting point in Melfi (PZ). We will be welcomed by the falconer who will accompany us on this adventure!

Once all participants have gathered, a brief presentation will take place. We will then reach the aviaries, for a first meeting with the real protagonists of this experience: the birds of prey! The falconer will not fail to introduce them to us, telling us about the differences that make each species unique. This first moment will last about 15 minutes.

We will then move on to a wooded clearing in the heart of the Vulture Regional Nature Park. Here the falconer will pass on all his knowledge and passion: he will explain what falconry is and why it is so important for Melfi, training techniques for birds of prey, and other curiosities. A flight demonstration will then take place, to admire these beautiful creatures flying in this natural setting in Basilicata!

For those who enjoy it, there will then be the chance to turn into a falconer: we will wear the glove and call a bird of prey to the fist! We will thus be able to feel the thrill of adirect experience with these animals: buzzards, owls, barn owls and falcons are just some of the diurnal and nocturnal species with which we will be able to interact.

The experience will last a total of 1 hour.

Who it is aimed at

The experience is suitable for everyone with no age limit; children under 18 must be accompanied by an adult. Children aged 0 to 2 years participate free of charge: contact the guide at the contact details given in the confirmation e-mail to indicate their presence.

Other information

The experience is available from March to September and is confirmed upon reaching a minimum number of 5 participants.

There is free parking on site. The meeting point can be reached by public transport.

Any accompanying persons may stay at the facility, which has a bar service. Dogs are not allowed on the premises.

In the event of large numbers of participants, a sound system will be used.
