Full description
That between Sardinia and falconry is a love that began in the distant Middle Ages.
And that continues to this day thanks to our falconry experience in San Gavino Monreale: a falconer is waiting for you to pass on all his knowledge and passion for birds of prey, with which you will have a close approach during a glove christening.
A2-hour experience to fall in love with this historical discipline and theSardinian hinterland!
What we will do
The appointment is at the selected time at the meeting point in San Gavino Monreale (SU). Waiting for us will be the falconer, who will guide us to the location of the experience, which is only 1.5 km away.
Once we arrive in the natural setting of theSardinian hinterland, the experience will begin. The falconer will tell us about the history of falconry, its importance in the Middle Ages (especially during the Sardinian Judicial period) and its evolution to the present day. He will then introduce us to his birds of prey, describing their species characteristics: from the chatty Mia, the Harris's buzzard, to the fascinating Kratos, the sacred falcon. This first moment will last about 30 minutes and will be an opportunity to answer all our curiosities about falconry!
This will be followed by the'baptism of flight', which we have all been waiting for: we will put on the falconer's glove and, one by one, hold a bird of prey in our fist. The bird of prey will be gently laid down by the falconer for a carefree first approach.
Finally, we will delve into the various training techniques and watch a free flight demonstration performed by the falconer.
The experience will last a total of 2 hours.
Who it is aimed at
The experience is suitable for ages 4 and up; children under 16 must be accompanied by an adult.
The activity venue is not wheelchair accessible. The activity is suitable for people with non-motor disabilities if accompanied by their guardian.
Other information
The experience takes place from September to June and is confirmed when a minimum number of 4 participants is reached.
Dogs are not allowed to participate in the experience.
