Full description

Besides the wonders of the centre and the monuments we have all admired at least once in our lives, Rome has so much more to offer. This e-bike tour on the Appia Antica will transport you through centuries of history and let you discover thenatural environment surrounding our capital.

Following the route traced by what has been considered the queen of Roman roads since the 3rd century B.C., you will venture south of the Urbe, entering the Appia Antica Regional Park, characterised by lush Mediterranean vegetation and dotted with archaeological ruins and ancient buildings such as aqueducts and catacombs.

Pedalling quietly and without any particular effort on your electric bike, a local guide will take you on a discovery of these places, telling you their history and making this a unique and fascinating tour.

What we will do

We will meet at 9.30 am near the Colosseum, where we will meet the guide and the rest of the group. We will be handed our e-bikes and, after a short briefing on the activity and rules of behaviour, we will start cycling in a southerly direction. Gradually the traffic will become less intense and the vegetation richer and more lush, until we enter the heart of the Appia Antica Regional Park. We will cycle along some of the original stretches of the Roman road that are still intact after decades of centuries, savouring all the charm of antiquity.

The route, one of the most evocative in Rome, will touch on several points of historical and archaeological interest, including the Nymphaeum of Egeria, the Mausoleum of Cecilia Metella, the Catacombs of San Callisto, the Circus of Maxentius and the Baths of Caracalla, to name but a few. We will pass through the Parco degli Acquedotti, often used as a film set, and the Parco della Caffarella, one of the green lungs of the city.

A tour of 28 km in total that will be a concentration of history and beauty. We will stop often to take photographs and listen to the guide's stories and descriptions, and we will enjoy a wonderful experience of nature, discovery, physical activity and good company.

After about 4 hours we will return to our starting point and say goodbye until the next adventure!
