Full description
Experience the incredible thrill of conquering the summit of a volcano with our 4x4 excursion.
Drive along a scenic road between ancient craters and recent lava flows, until you reach Etna's summit craters, at an altitude of 2,850 metres, and theVolcanological Observatory. During the stops, with short treks within everyone's reach, you will be able to observe the craters and lava flows that make the landscape unique up close and discover more about these places thanks to the tales of alpine or volcanological guides.
Reaching the summit of Mount Etna will be a unique and exciting experience, allowing you to observe the wonderful surrounding landscape from above, from the Aeolian Islands to the Calabrian coastline. Climb aboard our 4x4: Mount Etna is waiting for you!
What we will do
We will meet at the time selected during the booking process in Piano Provenzana (CT), on the northern slope of Etna. We will depart in a 4x4 vehicle from our fleet, accompanied by authorised mountain or volcanological guides.
The first stop will allow us to observe the ruins of the Le Betulle hotel , the only visible structure among those destroyed by the lava flow of 27 October 2002. We will continue in the direction of theUmberto and Margherita craters , where we will do a short trekking on the rim of these enormous extinct craters, a unique place where the full force of nature can be felt.
We then set off again in the direction of theVolcanological Observatory, at an altitude of 2,818 metres. Here, too, we disembark from the 4x4 vehicle and begin a short 15-minute trek that will take us to the top of the Pizzi Deneri promontory, at an altitude of 2,850 metres. The scenery that will appear before our eyes will be incredible: we will be able to admire the Aeolian Islands, the Ionian coast, Syracuse and Giardini Naxos.
Back on board, we will head towards the next stop: the eruptive theatre of the 27 October 2002 eruption. Once we arrive at our destination, we will begin the easy trek on the lava flows. We will walk along the edges of the craters along a loop route that will take us to the summit, at an altitude of around 2,050 metres.
Finally, we will take the 4x4 back to Piano Provenzana. The excursion will last a total of 2 ½ hours.
