Full description

Learn to tame the river current with a paddle and learn how to paddle a kayak safely and efficiently with a weekly course on the Dora Baltea, in Morgex.

Together with an experienced instructor, you will learn the theory and technique of river kayak navigation, starting with the basics and moving on to perfecting your technique and practising theeskimo, depending on the skills you demonstrate during the course.

The Level I course comprises 5 lessons of approximately 2.5 hours each, in small groups of 2 to 5 participants.

What we will do

The appointment with the instructor is at the rafting centre in Morgex (AO), where you will be given all thenecessary equipment: kayak, paddle, helmet, life jacket and wetsuit (if required). Below is the programme for the Level I course. The 5 lessons will be agreed on a case-by-case basis with the instructor.

1st Lesson

Basic theory of river navigation, presentation and operation of all necessary equipment. First approach to kayaking, balance and correct posture exercises, swimming in the current and exiting the kayak upside down. The first lesson will take place in the school pond, in flat water.

2nd Lesson

Theory of knots, paddling practice and hull tilt management. Games such as canoe polo will be practised to familiarise with the movements and correct use of the paddle.

3rd Lesson

Lesson entirely devoted to the theory and practice of theeskimo, a manoeuvre used to return the kayak to the correct position after it has tipped over. It is a fundamental technique to acquire for safe navigation.

4th Lesson

Hydrodynamic theory of the river, knowledge of the risks and dangers, assessment of the current and the water line to be navigated. Practice ofentering the current and crossing rapids.

5th Lesson

First aid intervention and communication with gestures and whistle. Watching the videos made during the previous lessons and final descent into the river.

The programme may vary depending on the level of the participants. Each lesson will last between 2 and 3 hours.

Who it is aimed at

This course is aimed at everyone from 12 years old and up. No previous experience is necessary. The only requirement is to have good aquatic skills. You can participate with a weight under 125 kg.

Other information

This activity can be carried out from May to September, depending on hydrometric conditions.

The course will start when there are at least 2 participants of the same level.

The time and day of the lessons will be agreed directly with the instructor.

Course participants can make use of showers and changing rooms, WI-FI, safekeeping of valuables, an area equipped for picnics and barbecues, and supervised parking.
