Full description

The Via Vandelli is an ancient road connecting Modena to Massa, crossing theTuscan-Emilian Apennines and the Apuan Alps. Historically used for the transport of goods and the passage of troops, today it is a splendid route for all lovers of cycling tourism and nature walks.

With a 4-hour e-bike tour on the Via Vandelli you will immerse yourself in a wonderful natural environment of mountains, hills, villages, beautiful landscapes and lush vegetation. An expert guide will accompany you to discover the most evocative places, for an excursion to be enjoyed in complete tranquillity.

Pedal-assisted bikes, which lighten fatigue, are the right compromise so that everyone can enjoy the joy and relaxation of a trip on two wheels, regardless of their level of training, without forgetting the benefits of a half-day of physical activity in the open air.

What we will do

We will meet in Pievepelago, in the province of Modena, near a free car park. We will form the group and meet the guides who will accompany us on the excursion. First, there will be a briefing on the use of pedal-assisted bicycles (hire is included in the participation fee). After that, we will set off in the direction of the Via Vandelli, passing through ancient villages and historic fountains.

Following an unpaved but easy path, we will reach the Cento Croci pass, 1200 metres above sea level, and take the Via Vandelli. Built during the 18th century at the behest of the Duke of Modena, this road was an important outlet to the sea for the Duchy, as it connected the Emilian city to the Tuscan town of Massa. It is an itinerary rich in history, panoramic views and legends that the guides will tell us along the way.

We return to Pievepelago via the Capanne Celtiche (Celtic Huts ) and the characteristic streets of the village of Sant'Andrea Pelago. At the end of the 20 km route, those who wish can refresh themselves with a rich buffet of local specialities (at the price of €8 to be paid on site).
