Full description
Embark on afascinating adventure into the depths of the earth and tackle the traverse of the Grotta di Monte Cucco together with a dedicated caving guide for your group.
You will explore one of the largest karstic caves in Italy, in the green heart ofUmbria, traversing channels carved over millennia by underground streams, amidst impressively shaped stalactites and stalagmites.
An 800-metre underground route awaits you, passing through narrow, secret tunnels that look outwards and offer spectacular views of the Apennines.
What we will do
The meeting point with the guides is in Sigillo (PG), in the locality of Pian di Monte, at an altitude of approximately 1,200 metres. After an introductory briefing together with our speleological guide, we will set off towards the east entrance of the cave via an easy trekking route that will take about 1 hour.
Once we reach the Grotta di Monte Cucco, we will descend into it from the 27-metre-deep Milani Well via a metal ladder. Here, an internal path on earth, ladders and steel walkways awaits us, which will take us through all the spaces of the cave until we reach the northern side via an 8 m tunnel with a ladder.
From the mysterious and fascinating atmosphere of the cave, with its typical limestone formations such as stalactites and stalagmites, we will suddenly find daylight, which outside will welcome us with a wonderful panoramic view of the Apennines. On clear days, the view reaches as far as the Adriatic Sea.
The excursion will conclude with a return to Pian di Monte via high altitude paths that overlook the Chiascio Valley and the Monte Cucco natural park.
In total, the activity will last about four and a half hours.

This activity is available from April to November on private days during the week.
