Fancy an adventure with a high level of excitement and adrenaline? Get ready to warm up the engines of your quad bike and head for Etna's craters.
On board the four-wheeler you will climb the slopes of Europe's largest active volcano, discovering its secrets and its enormous charm, among fumaroles, solidified lava paths and debris from the latest eruptions.
Ahalf-day excursion to enjoy while admiring one of the many natural wonders that Sicily has to offer, with its evocative landscapes that enrapture the eye thanks to the contrast between the brown of the volcanic earth and the deep green of the Mediterranean maquis.
What we will do
We will meet in Motta Camastra (ME), in the vicinity of the Alcantara Gorge, the striking lava gorges that cut through the course of the river of the same name. We will get acquainted with the excursion guide and, first, we will have a briefing on the route, the use of the quad bikes and safety regulations. After that, we will board the vehicle and prepare to set off accompanied by the roar of the engine.
We will enter the Alcantara Valley on dirt and nature trails until we reach the village of Castiglione di Sicilia, which offers a breathtaking view of the valley. We will then reach Linguaglossa, in the heart of the Etna Park, from where we can observe the most distant crater of the volcanic system, the Vulcanetto di Moio Alcantara.
Continuing on, we will cross numerous lava flows dating back to eruptions of different epochs, until we arrive at the Corruccio cave, at almost 1,400 m above sea level. Here we will stop for a visit, explore the surroundings, touch the volcanic rocks and breathe in all the charm of a unique territory between sea and mountains.
We will continue up to Piano Provenzana, at an altitude of 1,850 m, a place that was hit by the last great eruption in 2002. In addition to the craters, from here we will be able to admire a breathtaking landscape over the Ionian Sea and the Strait of Messina.
Finally, we will descend through other suggestive paths until we return to the starting point. The excursion has a total duration of about 4.5 hours.
Who it is aimed at
This activity is at an easy level and is open to anyone with a B licence. There are no requirements other than being in good health. Children aged 3 and over can also travel as passengers on the quad bike.
The maximum load limit for quads is 180 kg.
Other information
Important: the participation fee is per quad. If you book a quad bike, you can take a passenger with you free of charge, with the possibility of alternating driving.
This activity can be carried out all year round.
You can bring your four-legged friend on board the quad bike. Alternatively, you can leave it at the centre, where fresh water will be available, and retrieve it at the end of the experience.
