Sleddog Adventure in Castelmagno near Cuneo

Climb aboard a sledge pulled by wonderful snow dogs and set off on an exciting dog sledding adventure on the snowy paths of Castelmagno, a small Occitan village in province of Cuneo.

What we will do

We will meet 15 minutes before the selected time in Castelmagno (CN), a mountain village at an altitude of over 1,700 m, in a beautiful family-run estate where snow dogs live in complete comfort and freedom. The hosts will welcome us and take us to meet our wonderful companions of adventure: the Huskies!

This will be followed by the preparation of the pack and a briefing to learn basic sled-riding techniques. The dogs used for dog sledding are perfectly trained and able to help even the most inexperienced drivers, but we must treat them in the right way and give them the correct commands. The guides, of course, will instruct us on this too and then we are really ready to go!

Once aboard the sledge, we will have about 30 minutes to complete a 3.5 km route through the snowy forests, with ascents, descents and wonderful views of the surrounding mountain peaks.

Those who do not feel up to driving the sledge on their own can ride together with an instructor. Between turns, we will stop to catch our breath and let the dogs rest , and then we will set off again to enjoy the adventure to the end!

At the end of the hike, we will refresh ourselves with a delicious aperitif on offer. Between the welcome, preparation of the dogs, technical briefing, dog sledding tour and aperitif, the activity will last approximately 1 hour in total.

Who it is aimed at

This activity is open to everyone from the age of 3.

Children aged 3 to 12 can participate in the experience on their own, travelling in the sled bag guided by the instructor. Parents must ensure that the children are able to carry out the excursion (remaining seated, not being frightened by the barking of the dogs at the start, and wearing clothing suitable for winter temperatures). Under no circumstances may the child be carried by a parent or family member. Should the child be unable to be transported in accordance with the above, he/she will not be able to take part in the excursion and no refund will be made.

To ride the sledge, one must be in good physical condition, be at least 13 years old and weigh less than 100 kg.

In the case of participants with illnesses, physical handicaps or other conditions, it is necessary to contact the organiser in order to better manage the experience.

Pregnant women cannot participate in the experience.

Other information

The activity is available from December to the end of March, subject to weather and snow conditions.

Theitinerary of the experience may vary according to weather conditions at the organiser's discretion. The duration of the experience may vary depending on the number and experience level of participants.

The sleddog activity includes:

• From 13 years of age , sledding on their own subject to the judgement of the dedicated staff.
• From 7 to 12 years of age, participation in the experience by riding the sled together with the instructor.
• From 3 to 6 years of age, participation in the experience in the sled bag led by the instructor.

In order to have adequate freedom of movement, it is recommended to wear heavy but not overly padded clothing (no jacket and ski trousers).

It is possible to rent snowshoes and poles at a cost of €7 for excursions in the surrounding area (without accompaniment).

For safety reasons, it is strictly forbidden for any kind of animal to enter the area where briefings and hikes are held. Should you wish to participate with your dog, it will be necessary to contact the organiser well in advance.
