Full description
A night in a refuge, a dinner that smells of the mountains and two days in the saddle with a view of Gran Paradiso. Need I really say more?
This e-MTB tour is the perfect opportunity to get away from it all: you start in Courmayeur, pedal through endless pastures and scenic trails, sleep at altitude and descend towards Aosta through forests, vineyards and Roman ruins.
The landscape changes at every turn, fatigue is not felt (thanks to the assisted pedalling) and the only thought is: why didn't I do this before?
What we will do
Day 1
The rendezvous is at 14:00 in Courmayeur (AO), where a shuttle transfer of about 40 minutes awaits us to Vétan, a small mountain village from which the adventure in the saddle begins. Once we are mounted on our full suspended e-MTBs, which are comfortable and suitable for even the most unsurfaced sections, we will start pedalling along a scenic stretch of around 10 km, with a positive height difference of 650 metres.
The itinerary crosses the Mont Fallère plateau, one of the region's largest grazing areas, overlooking open meadows and with a stunning view of the Gran Paradiso and the surrounding peaks. The pace will be leisurely and suitable for everyone, with stops to enjoy the scenery and take a few photos. Arrival at the Refuge Mont Fallère is scheduled for around 17:00, but those who wish can take a short extra climb of around 30 minutes to reach a viewpoint above the refuge, perfect for watching the sunset.
Once back, we will relax with an outdoor aperitif (optional and not included) before dinner. The menu includes three courses of Valle d'Aosta cuisine: hors d'oeuvres based on local cured meats and cheeses, first courses such as gnocchi alla bédôle, saffron risotto, polenta with venison or Valle d'Aosta style, and typical desserts such as Cogne cream, tarte tatin or millefeuille with chestnuts.
After dinner, you sleep at the refuge in traditionally furnished rooms, all reserved for the group and equipped with private bathrooms.
Day 2
The next morning, after a sweet breakfast at the mountain hut, we will resume the tour in the saddle for the second part of the hike: a descent of about 20 km with 1,200 metres of negative altitude difference.
We start out on an easy alpine path with an open view, and then take a panoramic dirt road that runs along the mountainside, offering a continuous view of the Central Valley.
The landscape gradually changes: we pass from pastures to larch and pine forests, skirt the traditional 'ru' (ancient irrigation channels), and cross vineyards until we reach the cobbled streets of Aosta's historic centre, amidst Roman remains and an authentic atmosphere.
Before lunchtime, approximately between 12:30 and 1:00 p.m., we return by shuttle to Courmayeur.
