Full description
Buckle up and get ready to admire another face of Tuscany with a 4x4 tour of Monte Amiata and the Maremma!
You will be accompanied by a local guide who will take you by jeep to the top of the mountain, explaining the history and geology of this ancient extinct volcano that dominates the landscape between Siena and Grosseto.
An adventure of over 4 hours, complete with lunch in a mountain hut at the summit!
What we will do
The appointment is 10 minutes before 10: 30 a. m. at the meeting point in Civitella Paganico (GR) . We will be welcomed by the guide, who will accompany us throughout the off-road adventure.
After a brief introduction to the route, we will set off to discover Monte Amiata, an ancient, extinct volcano located between the provinces of Siena and Grosseto. Its last eruptions date back some 200, 000-300, 000 years, but the area still retains hot springs, volcanic rocks and a dark, fertile soil that makes the surrounding landscape unique.
We will drive through dense beech and chestnut forests, along dirt tracks that are not accessible with a normal car: pure excitement for off-road enthusiasts! Along the way, we will make several panoramic stops to admire the view of the Val d'Orcia, the Maremma and the Tyrrhenian coast, while the guide will tell us curiosities and anecdotes about the history and geology of the mountain.
We will then reach the summit of Monte Amiata, where a delicious lunch in a mountain hut awaits us. It will be possible to order from a seasonal menu, which usually includes a platter of local products, hot first course, dessert, coffee and drinks included.
After lunch, we will descend to the medieval village of Santa Fiora, one of the most beautiful in Italy, to visit the suggestive Peschiera, a 15th-century reservoir created to collect river water.
The tour will end with a return to the starting point, after having covered about 95 km. The total duration of the activity will be about 4½ hours.
