Retrace the journey of Ulysses with this half-day boat tour in a typical gozzo!
Departing from Sperlonga, you'll sail along the Latium coastline in the Ulysses Riviera Park, a protected area with enchanting sites of historical and natural interest. You will dive off the boat to explore the interior of the Grotta Azzurra and admire the famous Montagna Spaccata overlooking the sea.
Spend 4½ hours in a truly wonderful place, among Roman ruins and natural caves!
What we will do
The appointment is 15 minutes before the selected time at the meeting point in Sperlonga (LT). After we have formed the group and made the acquaintance of the skipper, we will set sail aboard the typical gozzo.
We will start sailing towards the Grotta di Tiberio (Tiberius' Cave), a natural grotto that became part of the villa of the Roman emperor, who was passionate about the exploits of Ulysses.
We will continue following the coastline characterised by sheer cliffs until we reach the famous 'Grotta Azzurra'. Here, after dropping anchor, we will be able to dive in to enjoy a refreshing 30-minute swim and do some snorkelling using the equipment on board. We can also swim inside the cave where a natural stalactite Madonnina will appear to greet us.
Once back on board, we will sail to Gaeta. On this stretch we will admire the beach of the 300 steps, which rises in front of a cliff covered with shrubs, and the Montagna Spaccata, with its mysterious cleft overlooking the sea. The latter, in one of the clefts, features what is known as the Grotta del Turco (Turkish Cave ) because of an alleged imprint on the rock of a Turkish sailor's hand.
We can dive again at Pozzo del Diavolo, one of Gaeta's most suggestive corners, during a second bathing stop of about 30 minutes. During the stops, an aperitif (included) of pizza slices accompanied by a glass of prosecco or soft drinks will be served on board.
This is before reversing course and returning to port in Sperlonga. The excursion has a total duration of 4½ hours.

The activity takes place from May to October and is confirmed upon reaching a minimum number of 2 participants.
Theboat is a gozzo equipped with a canopy. The organiser has several 8 to 10 metre long boats at his disposal which he will use according to availability. On board are illustrated brochures in English describing the main sights to be seen during the excursion.
