Full description
Enjoy a half-day e-bike tour in the footsteps of Napoleon, who spent ten months in exile on theisland of Elba.
You will set off from Portoferraio with a local guide towards the first Napoleonic Residence. You will then arrive in Portoferraio's main square, from where you will take the tunnel leading from the seafront to Le Ghiaie Beach, one of the most beautiful on the island thanks to the colour contrast between the white pebbles and the blue sea.
You will then arrive at a marvellous viewpoint, where you will stop for a few photo opportunities. Finally, the last stage of the route awaits you: Villa di San Martino, Napoleon's splendid summer residence.
What we will do
We will meet in Portoferraio, where the guide will be waiting for us. After handing over our e-bikes and helmets, we will start cycling towards the historic centre of the capital of the Island of Elba.
We will reach Napoleon's first residence, Villa dei Mulini, which the exiled emperor considered his home in the city. Past the villa, we will take the descent known as the "Scalinata Napoleone" (Napoleon's Staircase ) and enter a tunnel that will take us to Portoferraio's seafront.
We will then pedal towards the islet of Capo d'Enfola along Ghiaie Beach, with its white pebbles smoothed by the sea water, and we will ride along 2 km of dirt road to reach a wonderful viewpoint. The place is absolutely worth a shot with all the unspoilt beauty of Elba Island's beaches in the background.
After a 15-minute stop, we climb back into the saddle and head for Napoleon's summer residence: Villa di San Martino. The tour includes a visit to the villa, in which the Egyptian room with its octagonal basin and trompe d'oeil of the Egyptian campaign and the love knot room are particularly noteworthy. Inside the latter, the emperor had a beautiful fresco painted as a tribute to his love, Marie-Louise. The fresco depicts two pigeons flying and tying a knot.
The visit to the villa lasts about 30 minutes, after which we climb back into the saddle to return to the starting point. The entire excursion lasts four hours and involves a distance of approximately 30 km, with a height difference of 500 metres.
Who it is aimed at
The activity is suitable for everyone. Bikes for children from 9 years of age with a minimum height of 140 cm can be hired.
Children can also participate, for whom free child seats are provided. It is, however, a good idea to inform the guide in advance of the presence of children so that the availability of child seats can be checked.
Other information
The excursion takes place all year round and is confirmed with a minimum of 5 participants.
In high season (June, July and August) the maximum number of participants is 15, and in low season it is 7.
