E-bike tour in the heart of the Apuan Alps

Do you love mountain biking? Get in the saddle for a fantastic e-bike tour to discover Garfagnana!

Amidst picturesque villages, lakes and chestnut woods, you will cover about 45 km in which to admire the peaks of the Apuan Alps and enjoy a tasty lunch with typical local products.

After an ascent to thealpine pasture of Campocatino, the highest point of the itinerary, enjoy the descent that will take you to the Serchio river: here you will cross the highest stone and brick bridge in Europe and then return to Castelnuovo di Garfagnana, after 8 hours of an unforgettable excursion.

What we will do

We will meet in Castelnuovo di Garfagnana at 09:00 a.m., where the bikes will be handed over to each participant.

After a short briefing on the functioning of the pedal-assisted MTBs, we will mount the saddle to begin our excursion, which will take place on a ring-shaped route of approximately 52-57 km, with an altitude difference of 1,790 m.

We will ride through the small village of Torrite, then climb to the Monte Alfonso Fortress, a fortified structure of 60,000 square metres dominating the hill above Castelnuovo di Garfagnana.

Winding our way through paths and chestnut woods, we will pass numerous small villages and admire the splendid views of the Apennine peaks, before arriving at the village of Roggio, where Andrea will welcome us in his traditional restaurant for lunch.

Between one bite and the next of local specialities - which we will enjoy in the large veranda outdoors in summer or in the beautiful indoor hall in the colder seasons - we will be able to recharge the batteries of our MTBs. Alternatively, it will be possible to organise a packed lunch on our own.

After lunch, the route will continue for a further 6 km to the ancient alpine pasture of Campocatino, the highest point of the entire itinerary, where you can admire the splendid Mount Roccandagia.

From here it's all downhill! Passing through new villages and lakes overlooked by the peaks of the Apuan Alps, we will arrive at the Serchio river, one of the most evocative points of our tour, and we will cross the bridge to head to the other side of the valley: this is the highest stone and brick bridge in Europe!

At the end of the excursion we will reach the village of Pontecosi and the lake of the same name, on whose banks a castle once stood to control access to the river.

After our lovely ride, we will return in the direction of Castelnuovo della Garfagnana to end the tour.

The planned duration of the activity is 8 hours.

Who it is aimed at

This activity is suitable for cyclists with good riding skills and fair athletic condition.

Minors aged 14 and under may also participate, accompanied by a parent or another adult (with signed parental release).

Other information

The excursion is available all year round on Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays, and is confirmed with a minimum of 4 participants .

Lunch will be provided in a typical restaurant or, alternatively, it is possible to organise a packed lunch from home. Please inform the organisers in advance of your preference using the contact details provided in your booking confirmation.
