Full description
Discover an undiscovered Genoa by riding an electric mountain bike for 15 km along Europe's longest and best-preserved city wall. You will ride along wooded paths and panoramic stretches up to Forte Sperone and Forte Begato, dominating the city from above and enjoying a magnificent panorama.
Not only that, the route will allow you to experience the majesty of the forts that housed the soldiers called to protect the Ligurian capital.
The tour also includes a gastronomic break with typical Genoese focaccia.
What we will do
We will meet at the Righi terminus of the Zecca-Righi funicular. Here we will be met with e-mountain bikes and backpacks prepared for our excursion. Along the way we will learn the different mountain biking techniques, which will vary depending on the level of the participants.
Once in the saddle, we will cycle along the city walls of Genoa. These are the longest walls in Europe, embracing the city for a good 12 km. We will discover details and curiosities about the walls dating back to the first half of the 17th century and erected to defend the Ligurian city.
Cycling we will reach Forte Sperone at 450 metres above sea level. We will then have the city and the sea at our feet and enjoy a spectacular view.
We will then continue on to Forte Begato, built in the early 1800s by the Savoy Engineer Corps. The fort could accommodate up to 840 soldiers and was equipped with a powder magazine so large that it held 41,000 kg of ammunition.
We will stop for a break in a bar near the forts to taste typical Genoese focaccia. After the greedy stop, we will get back in the saddle to return to the starting point.
The route is 15 km long and the excursion lasts a total of about 6 hours.
