Full description
Join one of Sicily's most 'explosive' excursions: a half-day 4x4 tour that will take you to Europe's largest volcano.
Walking trails and off-road sections will alternate as you venture into Etna Park. Here, extinct craters, the majestic Valle del Bove lookout and an exciting adventure in the lava flow caves await you, where you will discover the tunnels created by magma with speleologist equipment.
All accompanied by naturalist guides who will enrich the experience by explaining the natural and volcanological aspects of Etna.
What we will do
The appointment is at 09:30 in Trecastagni (CT), at the meeting point indicated during the reservation.
Here we will board the 4x4 vehicles and begin our adventure in the Etna Park, a place of immense natural interest. We will make several stops to admire all the specific features of the place, passing through historic lava flows, old extinct craters, and the Valle del Bove viewpoint, an enormous natural amphitheatre covering the eastern slope of the volcano.
We will then dive into the meanders of the volcano. Armed with a helmet and speleologist's lights, we will descend inside a lava flow cave, with a guide ready to delve into all the natural and volcanological aspects of the place.
Our excursion will then take us up to an altitude of 2000 m to admire some of the lateral craters, cones generated along eruptive fractures by the accumulation of volcanic waste. The tour will alternate between 4x4 and low-difficulty walking trails, allowing us to experience the beauty of this unique natural environment.
At the end of the tour, we will return to the starting point, where we will be offered a small tasting of sweet and savoury Etna specialities at a farm. A worthy conclusion to the day!
The experience will last a total of 5 hours.
Who it is aimed at
The activity is suitable for all people with good mobility, without age limits.
Prams are not recommended. Child seats for children up to 3 years of age can be requested at the meeting point.
Other information
The activity can be booked every day of the year and is confirmed with a minimum of 2 participants.
The tour will be conducted in 4- to 8-seater jeeps, up to a maximum of 40 participants spread over several cars.
There is free parking for guests at the meeting point. The meeting place cannot be reached by public transport, but a pickup from Catania can be arranged on request. Contact the organisers after booking confirmation for more information.
A toilet is available at the meeting point and it is possible to rent trekking shoes, insulated jackets and trekking poles.
A lunch at the meeting point or a wine tasting can also be organised onrequest . Participants are kindly requested to report any food allergies and intolerances in advance.
Dogs are not allowed on this experience.
