Let’s be honest: if the only ‘time travel’ you usually do is looking back at photos from past holidays, it’s time to shake up your week! You don’t need any sci-fi gadgets to take a real trip down memory lane – all you need is a superb glass of Tuscan wine in the right wine cellar!
Come and discover the historic Fattoria di Crespignano in Calci, near Pisa: a working estate dating back hundreds of years where you can stroll through the vineyards and explore a charming 16th-century Medici cave hidden within the grounds.
A fantastic experience combining history and nature, where you’ll treat your palate to a tasting of four wines and organic extra virgin olive oil, accompanied by fragrant bread!
What we will do
The event will take place at the time selected when booking at the Fattoria di Crespignano in Calci (PI), set against the backdrop of a stunning valley nestled between the Tower of Caprona, the Verruca fortress and the village of Calci. We will be welcomed by the guide who will accompany us on this food and wine tour.
We’ll begin with a relaxing stroll through the vineyard and part of the estate’s olive grove, which covers a total of 7 hectares. Here, the guide will explain the characteristics of organic farming in the area. Afterwards, we’ll be ready for the most fascinating and historic part of the visit!
We’ll venture into a striking Medici cave, a private structure built by Prince Jacopo Appiani Aragona in the 16th century for the enjoyment of his guests. Step by step, the tour will continue towards the 18th-century wine cellar, a unique space that even houses a tiny theatre from that era.
Finally, we’ll settle down on the lawn, in the shade of a majestic plum tree (whilst in winter we’ll move inside the estate) , for the tasting session. We’ll be provided with a basket of bread and extra virgin olive oil produced on the estate, to accompany four tastings of the estate’s wines (two reds and two whites) .
The experience will last approximately 2 hours in total.
Who it is aimed at
This experience is recommended for those aged 18 and over.
The wine tasting is for adults only. Any accompanying minors up to the age of 16 may take part in the experience for €10 and will be served an alternative non-alcoholic drink.
The tour is not accessible to people with mobility issues, wheelchair users or those with pushchairs.
Other information
The experience is available all year round. In the event of bad weather, the experience will take place entirely indoors, with the exception of the walk through the vineyard.

Dogs are allowed provided they are kept on a lead.
Free parking is available on site. The meeting point cannot be reached by public transport, so it is advisable to travel by car.

What happens in case of bad weather?
If you have made a fixed date reservation and the weather conditions are not suitable for carrying out the activity safely (according to the expert opinion of the guide), you will be refunded the full amount paid. The guide may suggest an alternative date or time for the activity. You are free to choose whether or not to accept these suggestions. If you are unable to reschedule, we will proceed with a full refund! If you have set the date of your Gift Voucher and bad weather has prevented the activity from taking place, the Voucher remains valid until the expiry date indicated on it.
