Panoramic microlight flight over Castel del Monte

Have you ever wondered why Frederick II of Swabia decided to build his stone crown right at the top of that hill? Probably because he knew that the view from up there is something else entirely.

At Castel del Monte (BA), you can take to the skies and find out for yourself with a fantastic panoramic microlight flight! Accompanied by a professional instructor, you’ll treat yourself to a full 60 minutes of flight, suspended between the wonder of medieval architecture and the adrenaline rush of high altitude.

Lift off and get ready to see Italy’s most famous octagonal enigma from the most spectacular vantage point imaginable!

What we will do

Meet at the time indicated at the meeting point in Altamura (BA). Here, the instructor will welcome you with a pre-flight briefing to explain the safety rules, the on-board equipment and a few interesting facts about the flight. No boring lessons: just the right dose of enthusiasm before you fasten your seatbelts!

After the pre-flight checks and the checklist, you’ll board the aircraft for take-off: you’ll be flying in the Partenavia P66microlight, a fantastic four-seater touring aircraft fitted with dual controls.

The pilot will set a course for the Murgia plateau and head straight for the fortress of Castel del Monte. During the 60-minute flight, the instructor will share interesting historical and geographical facts about the area and give you the chance to take the controls to experience how the aircraft responds to your manoeuvres.

After flying over the unmistakable octagonal structure, you’ll set course for the return journey, ending with a smooth landing on the runway. The flight will last approximately 1 hour (excluding the briefing and any transfer) .

Who it is aimed at

This activity is suitable for everyone, with no age restrictions. Minors must be accompanied on site by a parent or responsible adult.

To take part, the combined weight of passengers must not exceed 150 kg (even for two passengers at the same time) .

A minimum level of mobility is required to board the aircraft; the experience is not accessible to wheelchair users.

This activity can be booked all year round.

The aircraft you’ll be flying in is a Partenavia P66 with dual controls. For groups with several participants, the briefing will be held together, whilst the flights will take place one after the other.

Accompanying guests are welcome; during the flight, they may wait inside the airfield’s leisure centre.

Small dogs are allowed on board, provided they remain in their own carriers.

During the flight, you may take photos and videos of the experience or request a dedicated photography service (not included; to be paid for on site) .

The meeting point can be reached by public transport from Altamura (BA) station; free parking is available on site.
