Scenic microlight flight over Matera

Forget the usual stroll through the narrow streets: it’s time to see the Sassi of Matera from the sky!

Lift your feet (or rather, your wheels) off the ground and let yourself be swept away by the thrill of a microlight flight: alongside a professional instructor, aboard an aircraft fitted with dual controls, you’ll enjoy over an hour’s flight (between 60 and 70 minutes) suspended above the Gravina canyon.

What we will do

Meet at the time indicated at the meeting point in Altamura (BA). Here, the instructor will welcome you with a pre-flight briefing to explain the safety rules, the on-board equipment and a few interesting facts about the flight. No boring lessons: just the right dose of excitement before you fasten your seatbelts!

You’ll be flying aboard a Partenavia P66, a fantastic four-seater tourist aircraft fitted with dual controls, ideal for ensuring an immersive and completely safe experience.

After the checklist and pre-flight checks, you’ll board the aircraft for take-off. The pilot will set a course towards Basilicata to reach the spectacular city of the Sassi. During the flight, which will last approximately 1 hour, you’ll fly over the picturesque canyon and the ancient rock formations of Matera. The instructor will share interesting facts and stories about the area and, if you wish, hand over the controls so you can try your hand at managing turns and the flight path.

Finally, you’ll head back towards the runway for a gentle landing. The total duration of the experience will be approximately 1 hour and 30 minutes, including the briefing.

Who it is aimed at

This activity is suitable for everyone, with no age restrictions. Minors must be accompanied on site by a parent or responsible adult.

To take part, the combined weight of passengers must not exceed 150 kg (even for two passengers at the same time) .

A minimum level of mobility is required to board the aircraft; the experience is not accessible to wheelchair users.

This activity can be booked all year round.

The aircraft you’ll be flying in is a Partenavia P66 with dual controls. For groups with several participants, the briefing will be held together, whilst the flights will take place one after the other.

Accompanying guests are welcome; during the flight, they may wait inside the airfield’s leisure centre.

Small dogs are allowed on board, provided they remain in their own carriers.

During the flight, you may take photos and videos of the experience or request a dedicated photography service (not included; to be paid for on site) .

The meeting point can be reached by public transport from Altamura (BA) station; free parking is available on site.
