Full description
The Collio is one of Italy’s most renowned wine-growing regions. Yet many people wouldn’t be able to point it out on a map.
Hire a 125cc Vespa and get ready to spend a whole day amongst rolling hills and vineyards stretching all the way to the Slovenian border. Halfway along the route, you’ll also stop off at the Viarte winery for a tasting of three local wines.
What we will do
The meeting is at 09: 30 at the meeting point in San Pier d'Isonzo (GO), where you will collect your 125 cc Vespa. After a brief explanation of how the scooter works, you’ll be given an interactive map, a road book with the itinerary and everything you need to set off on your own.
You’ll leave San Pier d’Isonzo heading for Cormòns, considered the capital of the Collio region. You’ll ride through its elegant streets with their Habsburg charm, surrounded by vineyards and rolling hills at the foot of Monte Quarin, before continuing on to Plessiva.
Here you’ll pass through one of the most picturesque stretches of the Collio region, between the Plessiva Wood and the mountain pass linking Italy and Slovenia. A landscape where borders seem almost to disappear, leaving room only for the vineyards.
You’ll then continue on to Prepotto, the home of Schioppettino, where you’ll stop at the renowned Viarte winery. You’ll visit the cellar and take part in a tasting of three indigenous wines ( included) , discovering the aromas, history and traditions of one of Friuli Venezia Giulia’s finest wine-producing regions.
After the tasting, you’ll hop back on your Vespa to reach San Floriano del Collio, a hillside village dominated by Formentini Castle and famous for its grape and cherry production. From here, you’ll be able to admire the Collio landscape once more, before returning to San Pier d’Isonzo.
