From the earth to underground , the journey is short (and in this case, beautiful) : during this experience in Locorotondo, you will walk among Apulian vineyards and trulli, and then enter a historic underground wine cellar dating back to 1860.
A two-and-a-half-hour wine and food tour to discover the Itria Valley 's wine industry together with a guide from the MIR winery, ending with a wine and local products tasting!
What we will do
The appointment is 10 minutes before the appointed time at the meeting point in Locorotondo (BA) .
We will begin the first part of the tour among the rows of vines in the Itria Valley, in an ancient vineyard of Verdeca grapes and native vines. We will walk around discovering the winemaking philosophy of the MIR micro-cellar, the training systems and the link between soil and grapes. We will stop directly on site for a frugal picnic among the vines, where we will taste the first two glasses of wine paired with olives and Apulian taralli.
We will then move on to the beating heart of the winery in the historic centre of Locorotondo (own transport required) a short distance away. We will descend into the underground rooms of an ancient structure dating back to 1860, entirely dug into the limestone rock. Here we will observe the amphora and tonneau ageing areas.
We will conclude the activity with a guided tasting of three more wines , accompanied by artisanal focaccia, cold meats, fresh and aged cheeses, jams, taralli, friselle, olives, must and extra virgin olive oil.
The experience will last a total of about 2½ hours.
Who it is aimed at
The experience is recommended for participants aged 18 and over, as wine tasting is reserved for participants aged 18 and over. Underage participants may participate at a reduced rate and will be offered alternative non-alcoholic drinks.
The facility is accessible on request for wheelchair users and pushchairs: please indicate this in advance so that the staff can best organise the visit with an accompanying person.
