A few miles off the coast of Palermo hides a magical world ready to be explored!
Set sail with us on a unique offshore expedition: in the company of a certified Whale Watching guide you will spend a whole day monitoring and observing dolphins, sperm whales and other cetaceans in their natural habitat.
An experience in which you will actively contribute to scientific research, collecting valuable data to protect these creatures and their ecosystem. Each sighting will be a shared emotion and an opportunity to learn more about our sea!
What we will do
The appointment is 10 minutes before 09:00 at the meeting point in Palermo (PA). We will be welcomed on board by the skipper and the certified Whale Watching guide.
Before setting sail, we will hear an introductory briefing on the Citizen Science project, which involves the active involvement of citizens in scientific data collection. We will learn about the cetacean species that inhabit the Mediterranean Sea and we will focus on monitoring and sighting techniques.
Afterwards, we will be ready to start sailing towards Cape Gallo or Cape Zafferano, following the route along stretches of coastline rich in biodiversity and depth, ideal for cetacean sightings . If we are lucky enough to encounter these creatures, our first session of active observation, data collection and scientific explanations will take place here.
Around lunchtime, we will stop for refreshments. On board, we will be served a typical menu prepared by a local cook consisting of an appetiser, main course and dessert, accompanied by Sicilian wine.
In the afternoon, we will face the return route with our eyes on the sea for a second cetacean observation session. During this phase, the guide will explain to us the main threats facing dolphins, sperm whales and other sea inhabitants, and possible solutions to limit them.
At the end of this second session, we will have a debriefing dedicated to questions, observations and, above all, the sharing of emotions. We will also take advantage of this moment to enjoy a tasty snack together!
We will finally return to Palermo at approximately 19.00 hours , for a total duration of 10 hours of excursion.
Who it is aimed at
The experience is suitable for everyone, with no age limit. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult.
The boat is accessible to people with mobility problems.
Suitable for pregnant women up to the 5th month.
Other information
The tour is bookable from March to November on Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays and is confirmed with a minimum of 6 participants.
The itinerary may vary depending on the marine weather conditions of the day.
The experience will take place aboard the 11-metreDufour sailing boat , equipped with everything you need to enjoy your day at sea: bathrooms, galley, refrigerators, spacious sundecks in the bow and large cockpits with comfortable seats and a table, perfect for relaxing while sailing. Dogs are not allowed on board.
You stay barefoot or wear white-soled shoeson board.
