Winery visit and wine tasting in Valtellina near Sondrio

There are cases in which 'making wine' is a truly heroic undertaking, and those who dare say otherwise have never been to Valtellina!

The wines of the Pietro Nera winery in Chiuro (SO) are proof of this: here, the Nebbiolo grapes are grown in terraced vineyards that require thousands of hours of manual labour per hectare, a testament to how each bunch of grapes is the result of a stubbornness capable of creating extraordinary bottles.

To have a taste, all you have to do is book a visit to the winery and choose the tasting you prefer composed of 3 glasses or 4 glasses of IGT and DOCG accompanied by excellent local products!

What we will do

The appointment is 10 minutes before 15: 00 at the Casa Vinicola Pietro Nera in Chiuro (SO), in the heart of Valtellina.

We will be welcomed by our guide and begin our tour of the winery, a 30-35 minute tour that will take us through the different production areas. First we will stop in the ageing area, where we will admire the large wooden barrels and barriques. We will continue to the fermentation area and finally visit the bottling room.

During the visit, the guide will tell us about the philosophy and history of Casa Vinicola Pietro Nera, explaining how the winery has been able to enhance the territory through respect for the 'heroic viticulture' of ancient Valtellina tradition.

We will then proceed to the dedicated tasting room, an elegant and welcoming space within the winery's wine bar. Here we will begin our tasting, chosen from these two options:

• "Discover Valtellina"Tasting : consisting of 3 glasses of Alpi Retiche IGT, Valtellina Superiore DOCG and Valtellina Superiore DOCG Riserva wines;
• Tasting "Sfumature di Nebbiolo" (Nuances of Nebbiolo) : made up of 4 glasses that add the extraordinary Sforzato di Valtellina DOCG, the raisin wine that represents the pinnacle of Valtellina viticulture, to the above-mentioned wines.

The tasting will in both cases be accompanied by a platter of typical products with cold meats, cheeses and rustic bread made from local rye.

The experience will last about 1. 5 hours in total.

Who it is aimed at

The experience is recommended for 18 year olds and over, as wine tasting is reserved for adults only. Any accompanying under-age persons participate in the winery visit free of charge; if they wish to consume non-alcoholic drinks, they can order them at the wine bar and pay according to consumption.
