There are those who cross the ocean in search of America and those who, like the founder Domenico, understand that true fortune is what you leave at home.
This is how the Antica Cantina Leonardi di Montefiascone was born, a historic winery in the area that today opens the doors of its ancient caves to you for a visit with tasting all to savour.
An experience of about one and a half hours awaits you amidst stories, tradition and authentic flavours: you will visit the cellar and taste four local wines accompanied by local products.
What we will do
The appointment is at the time selected when booking at the Antica Cantina Leonardi in Montefiascone, in the province of Viterbo. We will be welcomed by an expert sommelier who will accompany us step by step on this tasty tour.
We will begin with a tour of the historic cellar lasting about 10-15 minutes. We will take a real leap back in time, discovering the fascinating company history that began with the return of the founder Domenico from the Americas and admiring the ancient caves that guard the memory of the oldest winery in the country.
We will then move to the tasting room, where we will begin the tasting of 4 wines from the area. The selection includes 2 whites and 1 red, including the famous indigenous varieties Est! Est! !! Est! !! from Montefiascone (the 'Cardinal') and Greghetto, as well as a Bordeaux-style red produced over 20 years ago. To end on a high note, we will taste a Muffato wine, made from Trebbiano and Grechetto grapes using a process similar to the famous Sauternes.
Because drinking on an empty stomach would be a real sin, each glass will be expertly paired with local products. We will taste local cured meats and cheeses, fragrant bruschette with tomato and, to finish, traditional dry biscuits.
The experience will last about 1½ hours in total.
Who it is aimed at
The wine tasting is reserved for adults only. Minors, pregnant women, abstemious persons or accompanying persons who do not consume alcohol may participate in the experience at a reduced rate of €15 to be paid on site; they will be served non-alcoholic drinks to accompany the typical products.
The facility is wheelchair-accessible, with the exception of the historical part of the caves, which is only partially accessible.

The experience takes place all year round and is confirmed upon reaching a minimum number of 2 participants.
Variations are available for vegetarians and coeliac sufferers (e. g. gluten-free bruschette) ; in the event of food allergies and intolerances, please contact the facility at the contact details given in your booking confirmation e-mail to communicate your requirements.
Dogs are allowed inside the structure.
The meeting point can be reached by public transport; free parking is available on site.
