Full description
What if instead of running away from the bees you went to visit them in their home? In Sortino, in the province of Syracuse, you will don a beekeeper's suit, observe the hives (if you wish) and discover with an expert beekeeper how honey is made and why bees are fundamental to our ecosystem.
You will also witness the honey extraction process live and participate in a honey tasting and a workshop to create your own beeswax candle.
A 4-hour experience, which will end with a tasting of Terra Surti EVO oil and a full brunch with bruschetta, stuffed pizzoli, dessert and local wine!
What we will do
The appointment is 15 minutes before the indicated time at the meeting point in Sortino (SR), in the setting of the upper Anapo valley, at the foot of the Monti Iblei . We will be welcomed by a guide who will accompany us on this fascinating immersion into the world of bees and their treasures.
The visit will begin at the apiary: we will wear the beekeeper's suit and in total safety will be able to approach the hives (optionally, depending on our comfort) . The beekeeper will explain to us the life cycle of bees, how they organise their extraordinary work, the roles of the different bees in the community and why they are so crucial to the ecosystem and pollination. We will discover the secrets of honey production, from the collection of nectar to its transformation into liquid gold.
Following this, we will witness and participate in honey extraction, observing how honey is extracted from the combs. We will then begin a guided honey tasting, where we will taste different varieties and learn to recognise their unique characteristics, aromas and flavours linked to the territory and seasonal blooms.
We will then move on to the creative workshop where we will make our own beeswax candle. We will be able to personalise our creation by choosing scents and details, creating a unique souvenir to take home.
Afterwards, we will take a seat in the tasting room where we will enjoy a tasting of Terra Surti extra virgin olive oil accompanied by Sicilian bread. Finally, it will be time for brunch, consisting of an appetiser of olives, cheese, sausage and bruschetta with typical pate, followed by a main course (as well as the typical seasoned pizzolo ) and a dessert of ricotta and honey. All accompanied by local white or red wine.
The experience will last about four hours in total.
