Full description
With your rucksack on your back and your eyes on the sunset: set off from the village of Antrosano and walk at the foot of Mount Velino to Alba Fucens, the most important archaeological site in Abruzzo!
Accompanied by a guide, you’ll discover medieval ruins, the Romanesque church of San Pietro and the remains of the Roman city, whilst the sun sets over the Marsica.
An easy and inclusive trek lasting around 4 hours, designed for everyone: thanks to the Joëlette, which is suitable for people with mobility impairments, there’ll be no obstacles!
What we will do
We’ll meet at the selected time at the meeting point in Antrosano (AQ). Our guide will be there to welcome us and will lead us on a circular walk starting and finishing in the village.
The route, approximately 5. 5 km long with a 200-metre elevation gain, winds its way at the foot of Mount Velino, offering panoramic views of the Marsica region. Along the way, we will discover the ruins of the ancient medieval village of Alba and the Romanesque church of San Pietro.
After about an hour and a half’s walk, we’ll arrive at Alba Fucens, an ancient Roman city founded as a colony in 303 BC between the territories of the Marsi and the Equi. Here, during a guided historical and archaeological tour covering around 1 km, we’ll delve into the history and interesting facts about the site, whilst waiting for the sunset amongst the remains of the ancient settlement.
For those with mobility impairments, it is possible to take part using a Joëlette – a special single-wheeled trekking wheelchair – with the support of trained guides.
The experience will last approximately 4½ hours in total.
