Full description
Bushcraft is the ability to live in the forest using ancient survival techniques, such as knowing how to build a shelter out of improvised materials, build a fire or recognise edible plants.
Our 2-day bushcraft course in the heart of the Sibillini Mountains in Umbria will teach you how to survive in the wilderness, relying only on yourself and your surroundings.
What we will do
The rendezvous is in Norcia on Saturday morning at 9am. Formed into a group of 4 to 12 participants, there will be a short briefing on the planned activities and then we will drive to the bushcraft base camp, about 15 minutes away from Norcia.
During the day, the instructors will teach us how to use cutting tools, such as knife and axe, how to use natural orientation techniques, how to light fires with primitive tools, and how to recognise alimurgical plants, i.e. all those wild edible plants.
We will also be trekking on a loop trail of about 12 km, which will take about 4 hours.
On the way back, we will dedicate ourselves to preparing dinner with trappeur cooking, a rudimentary method of cooking food using utensils made from what nature provides: branches, stones, foliage, etc.
During our bushcraft experience we will also learn the technique of primitive archery, atl-atl shooting and throwing stick shooting, how to build a natural shelter, how to filter water and other ancient techniques. Finally, we will focus on first aid and how to send emergency signals.
The course will end around 4.30 p.m. on Sunday.
