Discover the secrets of the Scala dei Turchi, a natural wonder shaped by wind and water, on a one-and-a-half-hour boat tour.
In the company of an experienced skipper , you will set sail from San Leone to sail along the western coast of Sicily, passing Maddalusa beach and the Bay of Chaos.
The contrast between the snow-white cliffs and the turquoise waters will be so wonderful that you won't be able to resist diving in for a refreshing swim . We are waiting for you on board!
What we will do
The rendezvous is at the marina of San Leone, in the province of Agrigento. Here the skipper will welcome us on board a motorboat or dinghy (depending on the number of passengers), ready to set off in the direction of the Scala dei Turchi.
We will sail along the coast of Sicily among places shrouded in legends and literary echoes, such as the mouth of the Akragas river, the Maddalusa beach, and the Bay of Chaos, where the house where the writer Pirandello was born is located.
After a 20-30 minute boat ride we reach the Scala dei Turchi, a formation of marl, a bright white rock modelled by natural erosion. According to the legend associated with its name, during the period of Saracen raids, Turkish pirates used this area as a refuge and landing place, hiding their ships behind the high rock face.
Here we will stop for 30-40 minutes at a distance of 120-150 metres from the beach, to enjoy a swim and admire the Scala dei Turchi in all its majesty.
Finally, we will re-board to return to the port of San Leone. The activity lasts a total of about 1½ hours.
Who it is aimed at
The activity is suitable for everyone, with no age limit. Children under the age of 18 must be accompanied by an adult or have a release form signed by their parent.
The boat is not wheelchair accessible.
Other information
The activity takes place daily from May to mid-October and is confirmed with a minimum of 2 participants.
Depending on the size of the group and the availability of boats, you will be on board an almost 7-metre motorised d inghy or a 6-metre, 40-hp motorboat with a freshwater shower and awning.
The meeting point can be reached by public transport from the centre of Agrigento.
Dogs are not allowed on board.
