An alternative afternoon on a hot day in late August, accompanied by the only children/teenagers in the group (2). A total of 14 people, excluding the three of us: a couple from Campania, three French girls who were mad about Gabri Ponte, five locals – three women and two men (including the ‘fireman’ Nuccio) and, last but not least, the cheerful captain, tanned to the same shade as you’d see in those old 1990s sun cream adverts. nThe excursion set off in a ‘gozzo’ from San Leone and reached its furthest point near the Tower of Monterosso (see photo), offering views of the coastline, mesmerising colours of the sea and priceless dives from the bow. nTip: well worth a go to break the routine of beach-based seaside holidays, to meet new people and to spot (with a bit of luck, as we did) a dolphin. nDuration (return): 3 hours and 30 minutes’ sailing. nAn experience to be repeated.

Sufficient

It would have been even better if we hadn’t had to remember to stop for a swim for the third time, and also that we’d booked for three and a half hours. After not even two hours, we were already heading back to the port of departure.
