Full description
Drifting is not about losing control. It is knowing exactly how much you can afford to.
In this half-day drifting course at the Castelletto di Branduzzo racetrack you learn how to balance at the least stable moment possible: when the car slides sideways and everything depends on how you move the throttle and steering wheel. You work side by side with instructors and professional drivers in a practical and progressive course, ideal for those who want to approach drifting from the right basics.
In the end you don't take home 'showmanship', but something much better: the feeling of finally being in control.
What we will do
The appointment is at the Castelletto di Branduzzo racetrack at 8 am, with a welcome and breakfast (coffee and croissants) before the official start of the course at 8. 30 am.
We begin with an introductory theoretical session, also designed for first-time drivers. We talk about the fundamentals of drifting: physics of drifting, rear-wheel drive, load transfer and grip management.
Then we move on to practice on a dedicated 60 × 70-metre square, the perfect space to start getting to grips with the car in oversteer. We work on countersteering technique, throttle management and throttle/steering wheel balance, starting with the simplest controlled drifts.
You will learn how to set the drift, maintain it and close it cleanly. All this in rear-wheel drive cars, ideal for really understanding what happens when the balance breaks: usually a Mazda MX-5 or BMW.
At the end of the course, final debriefing and Certificate of Participation to take home. The experience ends around 12: 30 p. m., for a total of about 4 hours of course time.
Who it is aimed at
The course is open to anyone over the age of 18 with a B licence, including novice drivers. Equivalent foreign driving licences are also accepted.
A weight of less than 120 kg is also required to participate.
Other information
The course takes place throughout the year on the dates indicated in the calendar.
The exercises take place on rear-wheel drive cars such as Mazda MX-5 or BMWs, chosen to make the loss of grip more evident and to work effectively on car control. The activity takes place on the circuit with dedicated insurance coverage; a liability release must be signed before the start, as is the practice for track driving experiences.
Accompanying persons are welcome: they have free access to the circuit and can watch the participants' practices from a dedicated area. There is a maximum of 1 accompanying person per participant.
Videos of the experience can be purchased on request, with professional filming via camera car on board. The video service is available at a cost of €30.
