Full description
Much more than a dinghy tour: an opportunity to learn about the history of Camogli's Tonnarella, a sustainable fishing system that is a symbol of this village.
And how better to discover it than by retracing its traces on land and, above all, by sea: sail from Porto Pidocchio to San Fruttuoso, visiting the historic sites of this centuries-old trade. Don't miss a walk through Camogli's historic centre and a snorkelling stop to admire the Statue of Christ of the Abyss.
The experience could end here, for a total of 3 hours. But if you wish, you can select the option with a final tasting !
What we will do
I will be waiting for you 10 minutes before the selected time at the meeting point in Camogli (GE).
I will be your skipper , and in the company of a nature guide/biologist I will accompany you on the trail of the Tonnarella di Camogli, which is no longer active and is the symbol of a fishing system with a centuries-old tradition. And, above all, sustainable: natural fibre nets with a large mesh size are used to practice it, to prevent fish from getting trapped; furthermore, at the end of the season the nets are left on the seabed and turn right into fish food!
Our exploration will begin with a walk of about one hour in Camogli, in the historical places of the Tonnarella: where the nets are sewn, where the fish are gathered, where the anchovies are cooked during the town's Fish Festival. There will also be a stop at Dragonara Castle!
We will then board my maxi dinghy to reach Porto Pidocchio, the first descent ashore, and San Fruttuoso, the second descent ashore. Right here, a walk of about 15 minutes will take us to the place where coconut fibre nets are made.
We will return on board and then stop for a swim of about 30 minutes above the famous statue of Christ of the Abyss. Wearing mask and snorkel, we will practice snorkelling to better admire this jewel of the sea!
Finally, we will return to the meeting point, with the possibility of a tasting session (if the "tour + tasting" option is chosen when booking): this will include fish dishes, focaccia and a glass of wine while we attend a presentation of a recipe for a typical seafood dish. The experience will last from 3 hours to 3½ hours in total, depending on the option chosen.
