Full description
An epic trekking experience along one of the most evocative mountain itineraries in Tuscany. The ascent to Monte Forato is a unique circular walk for the panorama and the emotions it offers!
Are you ready to put yourself to the test, to enjoy the extraordinary beauty of the limestone landscape?
At the summit, Monte Forato awaits you, a splendid mountain in the heart of the Apuan Alps that owes its name to a series of curious karst phenomena that, combined with atmospheric agents, have given it a spectacular arch shape over millions of years.
A naturalistic jewel waiting to be discovered and crossed. Boots well laced up and backpack on your shoulders, everything is ready. Shall we go?!
What we will do
We will meet 15 minutes before 09:00 a.m. at the meeting point in Fornovolasco (LU), a historic village famous for its generations of blacksmiths, and begin the ascent along the ancient mule track that for centuries led merchants and pilgrims from Versilia to Garfagnana. Along the way, there will be particularly suggestive stretches with views of the sea. Then, Monte Forato with its magnificent 32-metre diameter arch will suddenly appear to us. A marble surprise, beautiful and imposing.
After a regenerating stop, useful for admiring and photographing this marvel of nature in all its splendour, we will set off again towards rocky ridges and beech forests, until we reach the foot of the queen of the Apuan Alps, the Pania della Croce. From that point we will also admire theUomo Morto (Dead Man), a rock formation that takes this name precisely because of its shape resembling the profile of a man lying down.
Finally, the circular route will take us back to Fornovolasco, the point from which we started. The route is 11 km long, with an altitude difference of 800 m, and takes about 5 hours to walk. The activity has a total duration of about 7 hours.
