Falconer for a day near Turin

If Harry Potter is one of your favourite films and you have always dreamed of dealing with a bird of prey like the young wizard and his owl Hedwig, this is the activity for you.

An educational day of falconry to learn how to call falcons and buzzards to the fist and admire the night flight of birds of prey.

Sure, you may not learn to do magic like Harry Potter, but there is still something magical about the flight of birds of prey!

What we will do

We will meet in Gassino Torinese (TO), at the meeting point and time indicated during the booking process.

After a moment of welcoming the participants, we will start with a 30-minute briefing during which the activity will be presented, all while sipping coffee.

The morning will continue with theory, where we will deepen our knowledge of birds of prey, the different species and the way they interact with the ecosystem, with brief historical notes on theart of falconry from antiquity to the present day. We will then get to the heart of the practice, becoming familiar with the falconry glove and geti and discovering how to call birds of prey to the fist.

Afterwards we will stop for lunch, during which participants can eat a packed lunch, if brought from home, or opt for the trattoria located directly in front of the centre (lunch not included).

In the early afternoon, we will resume the activity and go for a walk of about 4 hours in which we will cross the pre-hill area around Gassino Torinese, immersing ourselves in glades and broadleaf woods. During the 4-5 km route, which we will walk at a slow pace, we will have the chance to call buzzards to the glove, passing along streams, small fords and forest paths, and to admire hawks in flight.

At the end of the walk, we will return to the facility to finish our activity with an approach part to nocturnal birds of prey. With the sun already setting, we will be able to watch their impressive flight and then have a final farewell briefing.

We will then say goodbye, at the end of 8½ hours of activity.

Who it is aimed at

The activity is suitable for all persons with good mobility from the age of 10. Minors must be accompanied by a parent, who must be a participant in the activity.

The walk is not practicable by persons with motor disabilities, but on request it is possible to carry out the activity on dedicated days and with an adaptation of the route. Contact us to check the availability of the guide.

Other information

The course takes place throughout the year, on Saturdays or Sundays, with a minimum of 5 participants.

Lunch is not included in the activity. Those who wish to bring a packed lunch can make use of the tables, fridge and microwave available at the facility. Alternatively, it is possible to have lunch at the trattoria in the immediate vicinity.

The facility has parking available and can be reached by public transport.

Accompanying persons or animals are not allowed.
