Group hot air balloon ride over the Lucanian badlands

Experience the thrill of a hot-air balloon flight and admire the fascinating moonscape of the Lucanian Calanchi in Basilicata from above.

For about one hour you will fly carried by the wind, observing from a privileged perspective the clay cone formations that characterise this area of great geological interest.

What we will do

We will meet in an area close to the Calanchi Lucani nature reserve, in the province of Matera. The address of the meeting point will be given to us a few days before the activity, after the pilot has selected the take-off area based on wind conditions.

We will witness the preparation of the hot-air balloon and the great blaze that inflates the balloon. Then, after a briefing on behaviour and safety rules, we will board the basket and wait for take-off.

Once at altitude, the balloon will fly in the direction of the wind, carried by the currents. From the top of the wicker basket we will be able to admire the Calanchi Lucani area, characterised by clay formations and canyons that give the landscape a lunar appearance. Several directors have chosen this location as the setting for their films, and we too will feel immersed in a fascinating and at times surreal atmosphere!

Upon landing, we will find the ground staff waiting for us with an aperitif of typical products. Finally, after toasting and collecting thesouvenir certificate, we will be taken by shuttle back to the initial meeting point.

In total, the activity will last 3 hours, of which about 1 hour of actual flight time.

Who it is aimed at

This activity is easy and suitable for everyone from 8 years old and up (with a height of at least 130 cm). To fly in a hot-air balloon, you only need to be in good health. The only restrictions are for pregnant women, those suffering from serious illnesses incompatible with flying, and those with mobility problems in their lower limbs.

This activity can be carried out all year round, weather permitting, and is confirmed when there are at least 5 participants.

The flight takes place in the early morning hours to take advantage of the best currents. A few days before the activity, the pilot will confirm the meeting time and give you the exact address for the rendezvous.

Each flight is unique and unrepeatable because the craft has neither a motor nor a rudder and follows the currents without a precise destination. The pilot uses his experience and perfect knowledge of the winds to ensure scenic flights and safe landings.
