Group hot air balloon ride in Matera

Experience the extraordinary thrill of a hot-air balloon flight over one of Italy's most picturesque cities, Matera, with its Sassi and its tangles of little houses set in tuff.

The early morning light will make the experience magical, giving the buildings and pale rocks an even more dazzling luminosity. You will fly carried by the wind, at its direction and speed, not knowing exactly where the flight will end.

What we will do

The appointment is at first light in the morning in Matera. You will follow the crew from the first stages of preparing the hot-air balloon, see the flames that will heat the air inside the balloon and, when it is hot enough, the wicker basket will lift off the ground to float gently in the sky. It is the wind currents that will decide our route.

During the approximately one-hour flight, we will be able to admire from above Matera and its Sassi, the ancient settlements made up of rocky architecture and made famous when the city was nominated European Capital of Culture in 2019, but long before it became a UNESCO World Heritage Site. We will see the shadow of the balloon silhouetted against the walls of the little houses, and if the day is sunny, the Sassi of Matera will be coloured with an enchanting golden hue.

Then we will begin to descend in altitude, until the balloon touches down on flat ground. When we land, we will find the crew who will welcome us with an aperitif of delicious local products (included) and give us theflight certificate, before driving us back to the meeting point.

The activity lasts a total of 3 hours.

Who it is aimed at

This activity is of an easy level and suitable for everyone, from 8 years of age and up, and with a height of at least 130 cm.

All you need to be in good health to fly in a hot-air balloon; the only restrictions are for pregnant women, those suffering from serious illnesses incompatible with flying, and those with mobility problems in their lower limbs. If you are in doubt about your fitness to fly, please consult your attending physician.

Other information

It is necessary to arrive at the meeting point about half an hour before the departure time.

The activity can be booked throughout the year and will be confirmed when there are at least 5 participants.

The flight takes place in the early morning hours to take advantage of the best currents. The day before the activity, the pilot will confirm the meeting time and exact address.
