Full description
They call it the 'gold of Sicily' and (more than) one reason there is.
To find out what it is, simply take part in this guided tour of the Culcasi Salt Pans, in the province of Trapani, where you will discover the history and method of harvesting and producing salt, in a WWF oasis populated by protected species.
An experience of just over 1 hour that will allow you to 'touch' and taste the precious white gold!
What we will do
The appointment is at the selected time at the Saline Culcasi in Paceno (TP) . We will be welcomed by the guide who will accompany us throughout the visit.
The tour will start from the Salt Museum and the ancient 15th-century mill, where we will be led to discover the history of salt, retracing not only the laborious work in the salt works, but above all, the history of the family that has been running it for generations. The museum is located inside an ancient Sicilian baglio and is a strong testimony to the union that has always linked salt and the sea.
During the second part of the tour, we will have the opportunity to take a walk around the perimeter of the salt mine within the WWF reserve, among protected plants and birds. We will walk to the banks of the salt pans where the water mirrors the sky. Here we will be able to collect salt with our own hands and follow step by step the whole process that transforms seawater into the salt that ends up on our table.
To conclude, we will have the opportunity to taste salt, including the prized fior di sale and other varieties produced here.
The experience will last a total of about 1 hour and 15 minutes.
Who it is aimed at
The experience is suitable for everyone, with no age limit. Children up to 5 years of age participate free of charge.
The activity is not accessible to wheelchair users as there are passages over natural terrain.
