Get ready to meet the only 'gentleman with a moustache' who finds truffles. .. but he is a dog!
In Cantalupo Ligure, a relaxing one-night stay in an eco-friendly cottage, a breakfast of homemade cakes and the chance to be in touch with nature await you.
The grand finale will be a truffle hunt with Virgilio, the area's most talented truffle hound, nicknamed 'Tartufaio coi mustache'. A truffle aperitif will celebrate your 'discoveries' as a true truffle hunter!
What we will do
The appointment is at the farmhouse in Cantalupo Ligure (AL), where you can check in from 14: 00 until 18: 00. On arrival, you will be welcomed by the staff and accompanied to your room, which will be located inside a small house built in bio-construction and with underfloor heating.
The accommodation is bright and has views of the surrounding countryside. It is also equipped with a private bathroom with shower, towels and bed linen and Wi-Fi. In the morning you will be served a breakfast (included) with homemade cakes, yoghurt, fresh fruit, tea and coffee.
There is no lunch or dinner during your stay, but the staff will be happy to recommend excellent restaurants nearby. You will then have the freedom to explore the surroundings and taste local specialities.
Truffle hunting will take place on the day of departure, also at the farmhouse. You will begin with a 20-minute briefing on the history of truffle hunting. Then you will meet the star of the experience: Virgil, nicknamed 'Truffle hunter with a moustache'. He is a hard-coated German truffle hound, trained to find truffles with his unerring sense of smell!
Having made the introductions, you will walk about 15 minutes to reach the truffle area where the search will take place. Virgil will be left free and you will follow him as he moves. The truffle hunter will show you how he works together with his four-legged companion and, from time to time, tell you some interesting facts about the area. Once you have found the hoped-for booty, you will return to your starting point and conclude the experience with a delicious aperitif (included) of canapés, eggs, cheese and other local products, all accompanied by the truffle found during the search and non-alcoholic drinks. The experience will last approximately 3 hours in total.

Other information
The experience is available throughout the year. Availabilities may vary as they depend on the national truffle-harvesting calendar. The truffle that will be sought depends on the season. Generally, it is the bianchetto truffle between January and April and the scorzone truffle between June and August and between October and November. Check-in will be possible from 14: 00 to 18: 00 while check-out must be done no later than 11: 00.

The meeting point cannot be reached by public transport; free parking is available.

What happens in case of bad weather?
The experiences included in the stay plus experience packages are subject to weather conditions. If the experience cannot take place due to bad weather or other causes of force majeure, you can choose between a refund for the experience that did not take place or rescheduling the activity for another date (if available). However, the stay cannot be refunded or rescheduled if the terms of the package cancellation policy have already expired.
