Horse riding in the Tolfa Mountains

What we will do

The meeting is at the Pian della Carlotta ranch in Cerveteri, just over 1 hour from Rome. Upon arrival, we will be welcomed by the equestrian guides who will give a briefing on the activity and explain the basic rules for horse riding.

The horses dedicated to the activity are bred without shoes, so that they can live as naturally as possible, free to display spontaneous behaviour and to come into contact with humans in the most respectful way possible.

Very different from the classic horseback ride, the excursion will be aimed at discovering the Monti della Tolfa district, an area that is particularly interesting from a naturalistic point of view because it is home to numerous animal and plant species - including rare, protected and endemic species - that inhabit an area with unique characteristics.

We will be accompanied by a zoologist who will tell us about the complex environment we are going to visit, its flora and fauna, and guide us in our observation.

We will walk along nature trails through pastures and forests where cattle have been reared in the wild for centuries. During the hike we will make a stop and be offered an aperitif with products from the Il Sapore dei Pascoli company such as preserves, pickles, croutons with wild herb sauces, and from other small local companies such as cheese and wine.

The route varies from time to time depending on where the cattle are located and the experience level of the participants. In total, the activity will last about three hours.

Who it is aimed at

This activity is at an easy level and is open to everyone aged 14 years and up and weighing a maximum of 90 kg. No previous experience on horseback is required.

Other information

This activity can be carried out all year round, weather permitting.

In the summer months, the activity can only be carried out in the late afternoon due to the high temperatures.
