Have you ever dreamt of riding through the shadows of an enchanted forest, following in the footsteps of an ancient, long-forgotten craft?
The Sentiero delle Carbonaie, in Abruzzo, welcomes you for a unique horse-riding experience, where history and nature intertwine. Don’t worry if you’ve never been in the saddle before, as this one-hour ride is suitable even for beginners.
Get ready to immerse yourself in the forest’s history – we look forward to seeing you!
What we will do
We will meet at the time chosen when booking in Ceppo, a hamlet of Rocca Santa Maria (TE).
We’ll be welcomed by the guide, who’ll be ready to introduce us to her lovely horses – our adventure companions. Before setting off, we’ll have a short briefing where we’ll be shown the basics of horse riding: how to mount, the main commands and how to communicate with the horse. As soon as we feel comfortable, we’ll set off on our ride.
We’ll leave the riding centre on horseback and set off on a 3-km walk at a leisurely pace through the Ceppo beech forest, a beautiful and peaceful woodland where we’ll immerse ourselves in the tranquillity of nature. The guide will tell us the history of these places, linked to the ancient tradition of charcoal kilns: sites where, in the past, piles of wood were stacked to be burnt for the production of charcoal.
We won’t be stopping along the way; instead, we’ll focus on feeling at one with the woodland and connecting with our horses. The circular route will then take us back to the starting point.
The activity will last approximately 1 hour .
Who it is aimed at
The walk is suitable for everyone aged 14 and over. Under-18s must be accompanied by an adult.
No previous horse riding experience is required.
The maximum weight for participants is 150 kg.

The activity takes place from June to September and is confirmed with a minimum number of 2 participants.
Trekking saddles and American saddles are available.

If you have made a fixed date reservation and the weather conditions are not suitable for carrying out the activity safely (according to the expert opinion of the guide), you will be refunded the full amount paid. The guide may suggest an alternative date or time for the activity. You are free to choose whether or not to accept these suggestions. If you are unable to reschedule, we will proceed with a full refund! If you have set the date of your Gift Voucher and bad weather has prevented the activity from taking place, the Voucher remains valid until the expiry date indicated on it.
